### Responsibilities
* Serves as a Squad Leader on an Interagency Hotshot Crew.
* Performs work directly related to wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, hazardous fuels reduction, and prescribed burning.
* Performs as a qualified chainsaw operator and chainsaw maintenance.
* Performs prescribed fire operations including preparation, ignition, monitoring, holding, and mop-up.
* Monitors fire behavior, fire effects, and fire weather on prescribed fires and wildland fire use.
* Use specialized firing equipment (e.g. fusees, drip torches, flares, and terra torch).
* Instructs crew members in specific tasks and techniques.
* Conducts on-the-job training.
* Distributes and controls work assignments among employees.
* Assures timely accomplishments.
* Ensures that the work is carried out safely.
* Reports on performance problems and issues.

### Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Technical and Medical Support Positions, GS-0462, and Individual Occupational Requirements for Forestry Technician Series, GS-0462; and Interagency Fire Program Management Qualifications Standards and Guide; Standards for Interagency Hotshot Crew Operations).
GS-6: 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, on
the-line wildland fire experience as a senior wildland firefighter in forest/range control, prevention or suppression work, prescribed burning;
operating and maintaining specialized wildland fire tools, equipment, vehicles, and may include leading the work of crew personnel.
GS-5: 1 year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-04 level duties. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited
to, work in forest or range fire control, prevention or suppression work as a skilled wildland firefighter utilizing a variety of specialized wildland
fire tools and equipment. OR 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management,
agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses
such as those shown above For GS-4. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. OR - I have a combination of experience as
described in A above and education as described in B above which total at least one year. For example, 6 months of experience (50% of the
experience) and two years of related under-graduate study (50% of the education requirement) would qualify an applicant for this position.
**SELECTIVE FACTOR:**The applicant must have possessed all of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position in accordance with the Standards for Interagency Hotshot Crew Operations for the required minimum incident management qualifications and training:

* Required training:**
* I-200, Basic ICS; S-215, Fire Operations in the Wildland/Urban Interface;

Selectees for IFPM requiring currency will be required to obtain and maintain currency for the NWCG qualifications listed above.
This position is subject to pre-employment and annual medical screening and physical fitness testing for arduous duty.
FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE AND MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE LIMIT: this position is covered as a primary firefighter position under th
especial retirement provisions of U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS) subject to maximum entry age and mandatory retirement at age 57, or anytime after 57, upon reaching 20 years of covered service. Applicants for this position must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment upon appointment to this position. An exception is allowed if there is prior federal service in a covered firefighter position. If you are a preference eligible veteran, you may be eligible for this position after your 37th birthday. You must supply a copy of your Defense Department Form 214 (DD-214) along with Standard Form 15 (if applicable) and any associated documentation in accordance wit the instructions in this vacancy announcement.
